Keeping Your Sterling Silver SOMERS At Its Sterling Best

SOMERS takes great pride in the fact that our silver jewelry is solid .925 sterling silver. Sterling silver in the natural process of daily exposure will tarnish slightly. This is a normal process that is caused by oxidization, moisture from the air, and, believe it or not, sunshine.

In order to help keep your SOMERS at its stunning, shiny best, we'd like to make some recommendations.

For individuals:

Your SOMERS should have come with a SOMERS bag. The bags are anti-tarnish and we recommend storing your SOMERS in the bag when you are not wearing it. If your piece becomes tarnished, simply polish with a polishing cloth.

For our stores:

Displaying your SOMERS in the open air and humidity for extended periods of time can cause it to tarnish quickly. To keep tarnish to a minimum, we do advise that you display your SOMERS pieces in a display case. Placing anti-tarnish strips in the case with the jewelry will also help prevent tarnishing.

We also recommend polishing your inventory regularly. Depending on your climate, once a month should suffice. We use Sunshine cloths; when the cloth becomes dirty it should be disposed of, as dirty cloths can scratch silver. (Cloths will typically last through two rounds of polishing.)

Sunshine cloths and anti-tarnish strips are available at your local jewelry supply store, or through jewelry supply companies like Fire Mountain Gems (www.firemountaingems.com). SOMERS sterling arrives to you wrapped in anti-tarnish tissue, enclosed in zip-lock bags; we recommend that if pieces are not on display they remain wrapped in the tissue and sealed in the bag.

Finally, each piece of SOMERS comes with a SOMERS bag. The bags are anti-tarnish. When a piece is purchased we recommend advising the buyer to store their SOMERS in the bag. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call us at 505-986-0288.
